Special Issue Information
The increasing global challenges associated with food insecurity, environmental degradation, climate change, agricultural waste accumulation and unsustainable production systems have highlighted the urgent need for innovative, sustainable and interdisciplinary solutions that support circular bioeconomy and global social development. Emerging advances in biotechnology, sustainable agriculture, food science, microbial systems and bio-based materials are providing transformative opportunities for developing resilient, eco-friendly and socially impactful technologies for the future.
Sustainable bioinnovations integrating the food, agriculture and health sectors are becoming increasingly important for ensuring food and nutritional security, environmental sustainability, human well-being and responsible resource use. In particular, microbial biotechnology, mushroom science, functional foods, sustainable food processing, biopolymer technologies, postharvest management and agro-waste valorization have gained substantial attention due to their diverse applications in sustainable production systems and green industrial development. Beneficial microorganisms, edible and medicinal mushrooms, bioactive compounds and biodegradable biomaterials are now being widely explored for the development of biofertilizers, biopesticides, nutraceuticals, functional foods, edible coatings, sustainable packaging materials and other high-value bioproducts.
This special issue aims to provide an international platform for researchers, scientists, academicians, policymakers and industry professionals to present recent advances, innovative technologies and practical applications related to sustainable bioinnovations in food, agriculture and health systems. The issue welcomes high-quality original research articles, reviews, communications, case studies and perspectives focusing on sustainable agriculture, microbial and mushroom biotechnology, functional foods, food preservation, biopolymer-based materials, agro-waste valorization, circular bioeconomy, environmental sustainability and global social development. We encourage interdisciplinary contributions that bridge fundamental research, industrial applications and sustainability-driven solutions for building resilient and sustainable future societies.
